THE STORY BEHIND JLIGHT

Discover the light.
Bring it into life.

I started JLight to shine a light on the practical beauty of Torah—and discover, within its rich world of interpretation, wisdom for the moments that make up our lives.

Where Torah meets life

Some people feel distant from Judaism; others have simply never encountered its practical wisdom. Torah can seem like a collection of ancient stories, questions about what happened long ago, or religious debates about the origins of the world. To me, there is much more to discover.

When we look closely at the verses and the interpretations developed across generations, we also find questions that feel remarkably close: How do we become more attentive parents? Take responsibility? Stay connected through disagreement, find meaning in our work, or enjoy the journey? That is the light I want to share here.

Beyond learning what the text says, discovering what it can illuminate in our lives.

An engineer’s curiosity, a search for wisdom

I am a software engineer with more than 15 years of experience in the technology industry. Watching the rapid development of AI has made me think about the new possibilities it opens. One of the most meaningful, to me, is using these tools to explore Jewish texts and discover ideas we might otherwise never encounter.

At JLight, AI helps explore sources, find connections, and express ideas in accessible language. It is a tool for inquiry; meaning comes from engaging with the texts and with life itself. References accompany the reflections so you can continue reading, check the interpretation, and explore further for yourself.

An invitation to explore, in your own way

Whether Torah is already part of your everyday life, you have grown distant from it, or you are simply curious, you are welcome here. My hope is that you find an idea that meets you where you are—and offers a new perspective or one small step to bring into your day.

Wisdom, open to everyone

The site brings together reflections from the weekly Torah portion and its commentaries on personal growth, relationships, parenting, faith, work, meaning, and kindness. JLight exists to make Torah wisdom accessible and share its practical beauty. Reading and using the site are free, and no account is required.

We also plan to offer one free weekly email with wisdom related to your interests.

In her memory

The learning on this site is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Sima bat Ruhia Yom Tov.

Let’s connect

Comments, questions, corrections, and different perspectives are always welcome. If you have an idea or a source to share, I would love to hear from you.
